Thinking of Paid Search as a Guided Tour

We need to stop assuming.

I’m guilty of it too as I sometimes have the occasional case of assumptions. When you’re so involved with your product, service or industry you often times forget that everyone else needs the basic info before you make that hard sell.

Try to keep in mind that you need to engage your customer with a fantastic offer, explain why your peanuts taste better than Joe’s peanuts and hold their hand through the sales funnel.

Guided Tour

I like to use this analogy because it’s easy to understand and just because we’ve moved our marketing efforts online let’s not forget the basics. I’m sure it’s safe to assume that anyone reading this is most likely running a few paid search campaigns or they’re playing around with the idea.

As you go through your campaigns from start to finish, are you holding your customers hand and guiding them to the final goal? It’s easy to get caught up with Google’s quality score, your ad’s CTR% and if your bid is high enough to be in the top 3 positions. Remember paid search means more than keywords, bids and ad copy. I have touched on the other equation of paid search but remember even with a great CTR on your ad and so forth, you might not convert your visitors as they land on your page. Take the same time you do with your ad copy on your landing page. Keeping it all relevant and really selling your product, offer or service before you push for the hard sell will raise conversion.

Now go back to your campaigns and see if you’re guiding your visitors down the wrong path. You might be surprised.
